IoT for Small Business
IoT for Small Business was designed for AT&T, as a proposal to develop a family of devices that create relevant data to increase small business knowledge and to drive actions for general improvement.
Exploring what are key components in the product, organizing its structural features based on the relationship between elements and the environment.
Each device connects to a main hub/router. The collected data can be transformed into stories on business, their customers’ lifestyles, behavior patterns, preferences and inputs.
1.
Security
Together, all devices build a single local network thus enhancing security.
3.
Dwell time map
Tracked immobilized time by area allows measuring customers' attention and interests.
2.
Movement patterns
By tracing the movements and actions of customers, managers can better shape the store layout in order to improve it.
4.
Consumer-centered
Send customers notifications and offer them services based on their location within the store and its products.
Router & Hub
Users can manage and program the environment and their devices directly from the Hub/Router interactive controls. It permanently receives information from different devices and relates it, providing useful information, suggesting optimizations, providing reports and notifications. Users can still access the Hub remotely through the web or App.
Smart Camera
The camera has a built-in motion sensor that sends an alert to users' devices whenever it detects movement. The body is attached to a magnetic base, which allows for easy detachment and independent use, as well as rotation in any angle or direction, and a built-in LED lights for night mode.
Plug Outlet
The plug detects whenever it disconnects from a device. When that happens, the outlet alerts the router notifying the user also (signal appears on the mobile device as well).
Contact Sensor
The contact sensor detects any vibration that is able to activate an alarm and thus inform the user of a possible intrusion. It was designed to easily fit in any corner of doors, windows and other places. It attaches by the use power strips, so it can be placed on any surface.
Ergonomics
Tool-free mounting
The wall plate attaches using power strips. The router holds on and detaches from the surface through wall mount brackets.
Angle and Position
The front surface angle, helps users to easily attach/detach plugs from the power.
Visibility and Accessibility
The screen angle benefits viewing in several perspectives for all users.
Rotation
A rotating base allows for plug rotation to avoid covering other plug free sockets.
Flexibility
The hub/router can be placed on the desk. The screen flips, and the device's angle was designed to facilitate user's interaction.
Spacing
The slot’s arrangement and spacing was thought in order to bring a sense of fluidity to plugging and unplugging.
Packaging
Packaging works as a flexible and modular piece to allow purchase in bundle or individually. A see-through cover reveals the purpose of each device and enhances the product’s line by clearly displaying each device individually and as a bundled set, making it intuitive and accessible for customers.
